Hi, Betty. When I first started this project, I was not aware that so many people had been "burned" by the vultures of this world. I had nothing to do with that but offer apologies for it anyway. No, this is an honest effort to produce documented lineages on the internet in order to curb volumes of wrong information being passed around so generously on the internet. Although that wrong information is most often being passed around by well-meaning people, it too creates victims that will last many generations or until a family member somewhere actually does the research and discovers the errors. I was that kind of victim several years ago and my family history would have been in error for many generations if I hadn't looked for myself. I just want to "clean it up" a little for the sincere researchers on the internet, which most of us are. The site is online at http://www.provenlines.comhttp://www.provenlines.com and you are welcome to check it out for yourself. The minimal monthly fee for people who DO NOT submit a lineage to the site is $5.50 per month. Unfortunately, it does cost money to host the site. Many of us think it is all free, but it is not. You may have recently received the email from RootsWeb explaining that they were running way in the red and recently joined with Ancestry.com (a pay site) in order to keep their good work online. Nothing is free on this internet - someone somewhere is paying for it. So, the fee for the site is there to pay for the site. However, no submitter is asked for one thin dime on the site. The fact that they offer documented lines is certainly enough in my book! I hope you will look at the site and be satisfied that there is no hidden motive here. Anyone who knows me in real life or online would vouch for my character and honesty and I rely heavily on that in continuing this project. Thank you for your comment. I am not offended by it. I am, however, very sorry that others were so dishonest with genealogists in the past.
