I am also researching a Sheriff family from Forfarshire (now Angus) in Scotland so I am interested in what you know about your Elizabeth Sherrif and her family.
I believe that my great-great-great-great-grandmother was Elizabeth Sheriff baptised 27th November 1762 in Monikie (only a few miles from St. Vigeans), the daughter of David Sheriff and Magdalen Watson.David and Magdalen also had a son George baptised in 1760 and another named David who was baptised in 1756, both in Monikie.
Elizabeth married John Jarron on 9th July 1791 in Arbroath (part of which lies in the parish of St. Vigeans) and had at least nine children (of whom only two seem to have left descendants) before being buried in Arbroath Abbey at her death in 1847.
Elizabeth's brothers appear to have remained in Monikie both marrying there in 1792 and each had a sizable family (David had at least five children, George ten) but no Elizabeth who would have been old enough to marry in 1804 (George's daughter Elizabeth was baptised in 1796).There were still Sheriffs in Monikie parish in 1900 and there may still be today.
I don't think the name was particularly common in the area at the time so there may well be a connection between our Elizabeths and I would be interested in information you have which might be relevant to my family.
