Thank you for your response. I should have went back and updated this a long time ago. I took a break from genealogy over the holidays and then tax season (I'm an accountant)
John was the son of Melvin and Rebecca Hite Sherfey. I have not been able to find anything definative on Melvin's parents yet. He is buried with Rebecca in the Hite family cemetery in Rock Springs TN. so there's no help there.
