Sherer (also Shearer, Sharer, and possibly Scherrer) is a German name, and there are Jewish Germans who have it as well. A very prominent rabbi was Moshe Sherer. But as it happens my branch of the family was probably Mennonite or even Amish Mennonite originally. Later branches were Reform or Brethren. So the name is not necessarily a signal of your religious heritage.
