I have a newspaper article that appeared in the Gaffney Ledger{S.C.} in 1915 about this 76 year of age veteran walking from Forsyth , Ga. to Richmond, Va. He is passing through the area walking to the reunion in Richmond, Va. by June 1st. He says he does not have to walk unless he wish to, and will ride back. Born in 1839, he served the entire war. He enlisted as a member of Company K, 53rd Georgia Regiment, under Capt. Ponder, Sim's Brigade, Kershaw's Division, Longstreet's Corp. He left Forsyth May 14th, expecting to walk 600 miles by the first of June. He walks 25-30 miles a day. Says he's in better heath than most not half his age.
Wonderful article, thought maybe someone would find it interesting.
