Hamilton Shepperd was a son of Augustine H. Shepperd b.1792. Jacob Shepperd b. 1745 names Augustine H. Shepperd as his son in his will. According to "Wheeler's Reminiscences", Augustine H. Shepperd was a nephew of Colonel William Shepperd who married Elizabeth Haywood. Col. William Shepperd is the father of Egbert Shepperd who married Mary Johnson. In William and Mary Quarterly, there is a letter from a Samuel Sheppard to a Col. William Shepperd of Surrey Co. NC and addresses him as brother
and mentions "our grandparents Robert Sheppard and Jessica Hubard". In another letter this same Samuel Sheppard names his parents as Samuel Sheppard and Mary Kavanaugh.
