SHEPPARD family in Cattaraugus County, NY, early 1800s

I'm descended from a family named SHEPPARD. I've traced my direct line straight back to my 4th Great Grandfather who was, according to many records I've located, born in Leon, Cattaraugus, New York, in 1826. In 1865/66, he relocated his family from NY to Minnesota. I'm looking for pre-Minnesota historical data, especially the names of the family members not listed on the 1830 Census. In 1830, there are many SHEPARDS (spelled with only one "P") living in Cattaraugus County, NY. Knowing from my past experience with poorly written Census records created by people who obviously couldn't spell & how poorly they've been transcribed on other sites, I'm certain that one of the SHEPARDS listed on that 1830 US Census is indeed my 5th Great Grandfather. I just need to find the link that ties that SHEPARD (with one "P") to my SHEPPARDS (with two "Ps"). I'll be able to do that if I can find the names of some of the family members (spouses & children) that are not listed on that Census. Any & all help will be greatly appreciated & thank you in advance to all who reply to this message.
