Yes, as I have stated before it was common for people of that time to name offspring after a famous person. All the Sheppard lineage comes from Hancock's Bridge, Cumberland County, NJ. Where the four Sheppard brother's landed in or about 1660 from Ireland. They were probably from Cork, Ireland or near there. It's hard to trace back from time and across a large Ocean. But, not impossible. The George W. Sheppard in our tree was married twice, I expect alot of diseases and other conditions took a toll on those old timers. Personally, I do not know how they managed to do all of the stuff that they did. That part of Salem, County
in NJ has some of the worst mosquitoes in the world and it's all swamp! Yours now is the third Geo. Washington Sheppard we have here. You should be able to trace your lineage back to sometime earlier, than the dates you have.
