CENSUS RECORDS
1810 Buncombe Co NC
Shelton, George 4m<10 1m16-26 1m45+ 1f<10 1f10-16 1f26-45
Is this George Shelton (b.1762-living 1833 Fentress Co TN) who received a Revolutionary pension?Online sources say he had sons named Isaac & Stephen. Is he a brother to OUR Isaac & Stephen?
Shelton, Isaac 1m<10 1m26-45 1f<101f16-26
Shelton, Stephen 1m<10 1m16-26 1f16-26
NOTE: if this is MY Stephen, then this indicates he had a wife prior to Mary (listed in 1850)
1820 Buncombe Co NC
Shelton, Isaac1m<10 1m26-45 4f<10 1f26-45 1f45+
Where is Stephen?
1830 Buncombe Co NC
Shelton, Isaac 3m<5 1m40-50 3f5-10 1f10-15 1f15-20 1f30-40
NOTE: son Stephen (b.1809) is out of the house, already married?
Where is Stephen (b.1780?)His son John L Shelton claimed to have been born abt 1829 in Buncombe Co NC
1840 Rabun Co GA
I cannot find Isaac Shelton. However, he was listed on the 1836 Rabun Co GA tax list and his daughter married in Rabun Co GA in 1840.So I think he WAS in Rabun Co but just not found in the census.
1840 Habersham Co GA
Shelton, Stephen1m<5 1m5-10 1m10-15 1m50-60 2f<5 1f30-40
Shelton, Stephen 2m5-10 1m30-40 3f<5 1f10-15 1f30-40
1850 Rabun Co GA
Shelton, Isaac 65 NC
, Ann 35 SC
, Levy 26
, Isaac 23
, William S 20
, Floy M 17
NOTE: if the age is right, then Ann must be a 2nd wife. She is too young to be the mother of Isaac's older children.
Some sources state that Isaac's children were listed as "born in SC" in the 1850 census.Actually, their birthplace is left blank.
The Confederate Service Record for son Levy Shelton (in NC) stated that he was born in Buncombe Co NC)
1850 Polk Co TN
Shelton, Steapham 75 NC (I think his age is a little exaggerated; he was 50-60 in the 1840 census)

Interesting tidbit:In 1858, Barbara Garmon Foster applied for a Revolutionary War Widow's pension. The application stated that she married Samuel Foster in 1786 in Laurens Co SC; he died in 1829
Rabun Co GA; they had ten children.
ISAAC SHELTON, age 85, of Nacoochee, Rabun Co GA testified on behalf of Barbara Foster. He stated that he had know Samuel Foster since his "earliest youth".
A letter in the packet dated Sep 28 1858 stated that Isaac Shelton had died.
Did Isaac Shelton ever live in South Carolina?
