Here is some more information on Mary Saxton. She was born Mary A. Saxton in Ohio on Aug. 12, 1831. Her parents were James and Rosetta (Shellhouse)Saxton, both of whom were born in Vermont. She had at least one brother, Cyrus, who was listed with Mary and her husband, Thomas Hackney in the 1850 Wisconsin Census (Racine Co.). Thomas was from England (born about 1815). Mary and Thomas children were:
Martha A. b. 1849 in Wisconsin
Alfred James/John b. March 14, 1852 in Wisconsin
Thomas b. about1854 in Wisconsin
Mary A. b. about 1856 in Wisconsin
James L./A.? b. about 1858 in Kansas/Wisconsin ?
Myra Mae/May b. Jan. 6, 1863 in Kansas d. 1944 in Doniphan
Co., Kansas
Richard b. about 1868 in Kansas

Thomas died sometime between 1868 - 1879 in Kansas or Missouri.

Mary later married Thomas Kirby, a widower with other children.
They had the following children:
Esther b. May 1880 in Missouri (this daughter could be from
T. Kirby's previouse marriage)
Jonathan/John? b. June 1882 in Missouri
Louise b. Nov. 1882 in Missouri
Ethel b. Sept. 1889 in Missouri

Mary died Dec. 1, 1922. My grandmother (Thelma Loy Hendrix) remembers Mary living with Alfred J. Hackney. She is listed with him in the 1920 Missouri Census. She was quite fond of her and was upset with her grandfather Hackney because he put her in an assylum to get her rid of her. She didn't live
long after that.
