I tried to send you a message to your e-mail, but it came back saying it wouldn't go through. What I sent was the following:
I've been searching an elusive story for close to 50 years now. On my grandmother's side of the family - the Confers, the legend is very strong that one of her ancestors was an Indian. It comes down to Elizabeth Barbara Shellhammer, the daughter of Philip Jacob. The reports of an Indian are so many in this family line that it's hard to dismiss them as untrue. What I was told by the old timers years ago was that the story got lost during the time when it was unfashionable to admit to Indian ancestry.
I've developed my own theory, which if we've corresponded before, I may have sent you, as to why Elizabeth Donat may not have been the mother of the first 5 children. The story is so strong in my line that I can't believe that it hasn't surfaced in the lines of the first four sons of Philip Jacob. That's why I've been trying to find anyone who has been searching those lines. In my correspondence over the years with Shellhammer researchers they always insist Elizabeth Donat was the mother of all the children, but these researchers have, for the most part, not been researching the direct lines of Philip Jacob.
If I haven't sent you my theory, I'd be glad to.
