I am looking for any information concerning John Shelly/Shelley who was married to Elizabeth ? John was born in 1708 in ? and died possibly in 1788 in Guilford County, North Carolina. He had 6 children: Nathan b.1746 who married Elizabeth Davis and died 1816 in Tennessee, John Jr.born ? married Susanna Hargrove and died 1788, James who married Mary Ryan, Jeremiah b. 1750, married Jane or (Jean) Benson Campbell and died in 1801 in Jefferson County, Tennessee, Mary, no information, and Jesse b. before 1788 not much known about him. John's son Jeremiah is my husband's ggg grandfather. Jeremiah's son Nathan married Mary Polly Meadors which is my husband's gg grandfather and grandmother. Nathan is supposedly the first Shelley in Whitley County, KY. He and Mary Polly are buried in Jellico Creek Cemetery in Whitley County, KY Nathan and Mary Polly's son Thomas is my husband's g. grandfather Thomas married Rachel Patrick. He was killed before his twin sons were born in 1864. Andrew Jackson Shelley is my husband's grandfather. Andrew Jackson had a twin brother named George Washington Shelley. If anyone can help with John and Elizabeth Shelley please email me at wlshelley@yahoo.com We have heard that John and 4 of his brothers may have come over from England on a ship and may have been horse traders and then some stories have said that he and his brothers may have been used as spies against the British. We are not positive about either story. I have run up against a brick wall when he comes to John Shelley. I don't know what his wife Elizabeth's maiden name was nor can I find where he was born. the first information I have is as an adult in Guilford County, North Carolina.
