Hello all,

I will be posting this in the Shell, Schell, and Schill forums since they appear to be distinct, so please bear with me.

I am trying to determine the origins of Thomas N or M Schell, Schill, or Shell, born in Virginia about 1811 and longtime resident of Henrico County and Richmond City, Virginia. His daughter Ella S[c]h[i|e]ll 1848 married James Godsey, which is how I am related. Many of her brothers had daughters named Ella leading me to believe it was a popular family name.

Thomas was a cooper and a superintendent of a barrel factory in Richmond, and many of his sons became carpenters, coopers or tinners in aid of that enterprise.

The family is listed as Schell, Schill and Shell but later descendants seem to stick with Shell.

Leonidas R. Shell M Aug 1840 in , Henrico, Virginia,

Anyone know who Thomas' parents might be? Let's share.

Thanks,
