James,
Most of the NC Shells are in Tennessee and
Missouri and the rest are everywhere else. Perhaps
the closest to you is Gordon Ralph Schell in Pittsburg,
Calif. who knows more about Shells/Schells than most
anybody except Lorena Schell Eaker.
Homer is too young to be in my current data base,
but I'd like to connect him (and you, of course) to it.
Who was his father and when did they leave NC? And what families did they marry into?
I believe most of the NC Shells still in NC are descended from Daniel Shell, grandson of the immigrant, Casper Schell who arrived in America in 1742.
