All of us started that way! We spent the day trying to solve your problem to no avail. In my compilation of New York 1850 Sheldons, I have about 32 Charles Sheldons and another five or so with the Shelden spelling. I do not find Charles or Amanda in 1910 or 1920. Can you give me some guidance as to where you found them? You probably have noted that among several addresses in census and/or city directories is 16 Canal Street.
