Here is some additional information that might be useful. A Sheldon relative sent me a copy of a page from one of Dr. Sheldon's journals. It is about Caleb Sheldon and Caleb Sheldon Jr.
The part that talks about Caleb Sheldon (Sr) goes as follows. This was written by Dr. Giles James Sheldon who died May 25, 1880. The copy is faint in places so I am trying to type it exactly as I see it on the page.

Caleb Sheldon
was born in Patuxet, R.I.
4 miles below Providence on
the shores of Narraganset Bay
May 1746
Chloe Bowen, his wife was
born in Swansea Mafs March
1758 They had children
Abraham, Caleb Junior,
Elihu, and Rhodes
My Great Grandfather's name was
Abraham Sheldon He
married Wait Rhodes
They had three children
Abraham (lost at sea in
a storm; fell overboard in a storm
on the coast of Africa, was a sailor)
Caleb - a sailor till 35 -
He moved to the Old City
Fairfield, Herkiimer County, N.Y. -
became a Miller and farmer and Then
sold out moved to the town of
Norway, where he died 1st Feb. 1834.
Wait, only daughter, who
married a Whipple
