This David Shelby was born in 1755 in Prince George's County,Maryland, to Rees and Mary Shelby in their home called "Addition to Maidens Choice." In 1782, David married Eleanor (sometimes,Elinor)whose maiden surname is unknown.David also married on 3 April 1817 in White County, Illinois,to Orpha Carlock. David's issue were: Keziah, Elizabeth, Mary "Polly", Eleanor, Philadelphia "Delphy", Rachel, David Jr., and Lavina. Whether he had a son named Isaac has not been proven.

The source for this information was a book by Johnny Mullinax Johnson titled REES AND MARY SHELBY: Ancestors & Descendants. Published by the author in Texas in 1994, pp. 229-246. Johnny provided many original documents obtained during her research. She also was indebted to other fine research oriented family historians for their research and assistance with the book which is out of print. These included Cass Knight Shelby (deceased) and Judith Trolinger.
