Check William L. Shelby (1848-1923). He was a member of the 3rd Mississippi Infantry, CSA. Johnson reported in her fine book that William married Nancy H. Martin (?) in 1864 in Smith County, MS. One of their many children was a Robert M. Shelby. Nothing more.
