Hello Jason, Thank you for your response to my posting. We may be able to help each other in learning more about these people. I have a lot of material on the Robert Cockburn of Berkeley Co, VA whom I believe was the son of Robert Cockburn/Rachel Selby/Shelby, making him the 1/2 brother of your John McFarland, Jr, (b) about 1747. I pulled up a map of Glen Allen, VA and note that you are located in the northern section of Richmond. You are so fortunate to be within driving distance of some much history and have access to its documentation. If it is possible for you to make a researching trip to Martinsburg, WV, County seat of Berkeley Co (now WV), it would probably be a very productive trip. I have obtained a copy of the file in the Berkeley Co WV Genealogical Socity there on this Robert Cockburn, SR. Sadly, there is no mention of his parentage. The Berkeley County WV Historical and Genealogical Socity has a website and an e-mail address for inquiries. e-mail: bchs15@earthlink.net The president of the Gen. Soc there is Mr. Don C Wood. I have ordered and received the Robt Cockburn file. Mr Wood is most helpful and his research abilities are of the finest. There is an index of genealogical files which are housed there, several of which would probably be most helpful in the Shelby, McFarland, and Pindall trees as well as the Cockburn file. Among the files listed: McFARLAND PENDALL PINDALL SELBY SHELBY COCKBURN You may study these files free and make copies at regular photocopy rates. Mr Wood will also make copies of these files at a fee. I live in Texas, so a visit there for me is not likely. I will share with you copies of what I have on Robert Cockburn of Berkeley Co VA but there is a lot of material and it will have to go snail mail and will take time. Can you reimburse me for photocopies at 10 cents per page? and for postage? My e-mail address is wingspread257@earthlink.net Let me know if you think a trip to Martinsburg, WV would be productive and whether you would be interested in doing research there. Maybe we can share costs on the files that concern these interrelated folks. If you go there, could you see what you can learn of the "old Dutch burial ground" there? In his will (p) 1822, Berkeley Co VA, Robt Cockburn, SR requested that he be buried there beside his 2 wives. I would like to know their names. Hope to hear from you soon.
