I was very happy to see your posting as I was glancing around today. I am actually descended from Rachel Shelby and John McFarland through their son John. I knew for sure that Rachel had married John McFarland and Philip Pindell/Pindall but no one else had ever brought up the other marriage. I do believe that she was married a 3rd time to someone other than John and Phillip. One of my ancestors was John McFarland Weltner who was a great grandchild of Rachel and John. In an account that he wrote in the later 1800s he stated that she had been married to a 3rd man, he gives his name as a Mr. Grymes but no first name. He states that they had two daughters who were both killed in a house fire and that the marriage did not last after this incident. He could have been wrong about this person's last name I suppose since he was writing about it well after the fact but he was extremely accurate on everything else so I have little doubt that there was a 3rd marriage... I would be interested to hear anything else that you have...
