Hi Jef! Good to hear from you. Thanks for the post! This is probably a repeat: Debrett Ancestry Research in Hampshire, England- Their research in the National Library of Wales bewteen 1978-1983, and provided to me by Mrs Sydney Kerr in 1989 (dec'd) Her Uncle Sidney Jackson and his 2nd wife, had hired this company to research the records for Shelbys. But the family felt the research was not complete as there were too many gaps and some errors in what they gave-They also had Debrett do some research on other branches of the family and on the Blackburn-Shelby connections here in the States-but Sidney only referred to this and didn't include what they found. Sydney was a descendant of David Flournois Blackburn and Catherine Shelby-daughter of Thomas Shelby and Mary Berry Prince. Thomas was a son of Evan Shelby (3rd) and his cousin Catherine Shelby. Evan was the brother of Gov Isaac Shelby. Catherine was the daughter of Capt John Shelby and Sarah Davis. But, it is also possible, as already noted, that by the time Dubrett started their search, some of the original pages were already missing. Their record shows Shelby PHILLIP buried 26 Jun 1731..that there is a gap in the records from April 1697 to March 1700/1 They give the marriage of Evan Shelby and Catherine Morgan, both otp, Croes and Berwyn parcel, 9 Feb 1716. Copy of record I now have, gives this data, but she is shown as Catherina. [provided by Ron Shelby] They show Evan Shelby son of Evan Shelby, Chr 23 Dec 1720 and buried 8 Jan 1720. They also, apparently, translated the data into English rather than quoting the original document- Their report was all type written and did not include photocopies of any of the documents.. There is no mention of Rees or Rachel Shelby. No mention of the marriage for Phillip Selby/Selby Phillip, and Margaretta, where as the Vicar of St Caron's [in Jan 1970] shows it as Oct or Nov of 1673. So these are part of the conflicts we are having to work with. I have really been disappointed in the Vicar - I made the assumption that he knew how to read his own records.. and I became a 'doubting thomas' when he attached Rachel Shelby, b 1721, to Evan and Catherine; the original record clearly shows the Rachel bpt this date as a daughter of Riceius. An earlier researcher said it looked like there were pages missing from the bpt records. I've been in contact with a lady who lives in or near London and is going to Wales in the next week or two. Said she descends from the Shelby's that stayed in Wales. Will alert her to your message Jef Ancestry.com is now placing the census records of Wales on their website....Oh my MORE Shelbys!
