The Peter Sheffer I refer to was born in 1721 and died in 1798. He came to Scottsville, NY in 1789 with 2 sons Peter Sheffer born in in 1762 in PA and died in in 1851 in NY. The 2nd Peter Sheffer also had a son born in 1797 and died in 1878. The last Peter was born and died in NY. It is confusing but there are actually 3 Peter Sheffer's in a row in this line. I have never been able to trace them any farther back than PA or link them with any other Sheffers in PA. The earlist I can find are deeds from Phelps and Gorham land purchases in NY state.
