George Sheak of Delaware County, Ohio

Here is information I have on my great-great-great grandfather. Can anyone help me with more? Thanks, Connie

George Sheeks
Born: February 29, 1810 in Pennsylvania (some records say 1801)
Married: January 15, 1829 in Franklin Ohio to Matilda Putenney (Name spelled Shieks on marriage info)
Died: November, 1863

8 children: William Nelson M 1830, Marian M 1831, Mary F 1832, Eleanor F. F 1834, Caroline F August 30, 1840, Leonna (Lavina) F 1843, Charles M 1845, Elizabeth F 1848

Buried at Redbank Cemetery in Genoa Township in Delaware County, Ohio
under cedar tree. So is daughter Caroline. Can see George's stone but all adjacent stones were destroyed.

Sunbury, Ohio is about 3-4 miles from this cemetery in the same township. There are lots of Sheeks - Sheaks buried in this cemetery but the stones are badly weathered. Hoover Dam is just north of Columbus and both of these cemeteries are just to the east.

According to the Genoa Township, Delaware County, Ohio census in 1850 George was a farmer and the value of his land was worth $2000.00. It states that he was born in Pennsylvania. On the 1860 census the value of his real estate was $5000.00 and his personal estate was worth $500.00. The 1860 census also reports him as being born in Pennsylvania.

I suspect that George and his daughter Caroline may have died from the same thing as they died about two weeks apart.

I have not found any information on his wife, Matilda other than I also think she was born in 1810.
