Thanks a little late for the information. We did, on our last road trip through IA find the birth of a son, Fred Arthur Wilson Goddard mother Anna Jean (Gene) Sheckles Goddard 1884 in Fort Dodge, IA.Father may have been with the RR.They went west to WA leaving IA in 1888-9.It is still family story that they were married in MO.Our Anna (Annie?) Sheckles was born in 1865 IA. Hostler is part of the RR right?
Keokuk is in the far south/east tip of the state. The places I note on the family is Anna born in 1865 "Greenbush" and Des Moines.Des Moines is in Polk Co. and we found what remains of Greenbush (if this is the one) in Warren Co. just south of Polk.At one time was going to be a place of great development now it does not even have post office.
Do you think that Henry may have served at Fort Dodge? There was a large regiment that came up from MO.I will check that out again. That point just passed over my head while standing there talking to the park tour guide.
Hope you received the papers from VA.Beth
