Hi Lisa!
Nice to make aquantance with a distant cousin! I am decended from David and Dorynda via their daughter Maggie Shears Wenger. Maggie became a Wenger when she Married Rhodes Solomon Wenger who was my great grandfather. Maggie is buriend in the cemetary in Arbovale WV. Arbovale is the birth place of my father, Arnold L. Wenger, Sr. who passed away in Nov, 2000. His father, my grandfather who was Maggie's son was Virgil Franklin Wenger who is also burried in Arbovale. I have known of, and personally have known a number of Shears' in my life including Dauphus Shears, Olin Shears, Clinton Shears and many of Clinton's decendents plus some others. I used to visit and on a couple occassions even stayed overnight with my Aunt Effie Shears in Cass, WV when I was young. She was a Shears by virtue of having married one of my great grandmother's brothers although I can't remember for sure which one. Geez, I know there was a Willie and a Jesse, but am having trouble remembering details. I still have passing aquantance with some 3rd and 4th cousins that live here in Maryland. I am sorry that I can't help you with David Shears parents, but I am writing, in part, to see if you have obtained any information. I have a cousin (my father's 1st cousin) livin in Roanoke who actually possesses the Marriage Certificate for David and Dorynda! I guess that doesn't necessarily help much, but it is a point of interest, I think. You can feel free to contact me directly at awenger_md@yahoo.com for further conversation. If I remember correctly, Uncle Luther Shears married Sadie Wenger and Rhodes Wenger married his sister Maggie making their children double first cousins and us double 'distant cousins...LOL.. whatever that means :-))) BTW, I wasn't aware that David Shears was part native American. Hmmm, ya learn something new every day!
Hope to hear from you sometime.

Happy 2009!
Arnold 'Beau' Wenger (Beau is a nickname)
