Noticed your inquiry concerning Shears in Alabama while scanning many different inquiries for information about the Sheer family who migrated from Anniston, Alabama area to Texas. Have found numerous different spellings for the name: Shearer, Shears, Sheer(way we spell it in Texas today), Sheers, Shearers, etc. Do know that James Bartlett Sheer/Shearer was born in 1844 in/close to Anniston, Alabama and have information on this line; however, have only found few references to any of spellings on census records for Alabama (Thomas Shearer, Druggist, 1850 and 1860 census, Alabama). Have only worked on genealogy for a few months so there are many things yet to be discovered. Hope to hear from you. Ruth Sheer
