I have a story.....Frank D. Shea Family Bible
In the 70's, my husband was stationed at Langley AFB in Langley Va.One cold winter Sat we stopped at a garage sale.It was an abandon looking house with very very little in the house. In back there were some young people, hippies we called them with a hugh bond fire.To fuel the bondfire they were burning books.I walked by the pile of books on the ground and saw an old Bible.I love old Bibles so I ask how much and they said if you want it take it.So I did.It has traveled the world with me even lived in Spain for 3 years.
I recently got involved with genealogy and remembered that old Bible packed away in the garage and today I found it.I am sure the information in its coveres is of interest to someone. It was the family Bible of Frank D. Shea and his wife Kate Merrill Shea.In fact it was a beautiful bible at one time probably a purple velvet with engraved on the front it says Frank to Kittie.I am guessing that was Kate's nickname. It has a purple ribbon in it with the initials FDS.Among the names on the Birth page is Frank D. Shea, Kate Merrill Shea, Emelie Etta Shea, Frank Merrill Shea, Dorothy Margaret Shea, Helen Dearstyn Shea, and Dorothy Helen Sherman.Death page has......Charles Merrill, Frank D. Shea, Schuylar C Merrill and Emma F. Merrill.Frank D. Shea was born Aug 4, 1864 and Kate Merrill born Oct 1, 1867.The Bible is in pretty bad shape.....its a large family bible, corcodance type with the strings that held it together rotten and breaking. There is a small newspaper clipping that reads Mrs. CD Merrill of Second Avenue has as her guest her granddaughter, Miss Emily Etta Shea of New York City.If these are your people contact me.We are in the process of moving and after the end of the month it will be awhile before I get internet as we are moving back in the boonies of Texas.I will answer you just it may take awhile.I know I would love to find someone with a family bible of my ancestors.....what you sow is what you reap....so Im hoping in offering this information someone will come forward with my missing link.
