Shattuck verses Shattock are they the same name? And a William.

I am rather confused right now and hope someone can help me figure it out. Both the last names Shattuck and Shattock seem to be enterchanged and used? Do they stem from eachother but over time people have changed the spelling?

I asked because I have been trying to do research on a grandfather of mine(with many greats in front of it) named William Shattock/Shattuck. He was one of the Quaker heroines whose line of family married Southwick's, Lippincott and Gaskill and Im sure others as well.

there is a lot of info about a William Shattock/Shattuck online and sometimes it is listed as William Shattock and sometimes it is William Shattuck but the story is the same so I assume they are both the same man? Are they?

What is up with the name spelling? Which one is the older spelling Shattock or Shattuck?
