Yes you are right!! Many thanks. It was not the fact of too MANY BUT WHERE THEY WERE BORN. I must do a little more research I think. I did not know when the oldest son went to Australia. I know what happened to all the children except Ann Matilda who married Edward Merchant at St Mary Redcliff on 9 March 1843 and then seems to have disappeared!Thanks for all the information. Do you know if the John (of the Globe)inherited money around 1835 that made it possible for him to leave the Globe and retire.Of course he went with his son Thomas to the White Lion in Westbury on Trym, a coach Inn and far superior to the Globe. His death Cert declares him 'a gentleman'so presume he came by some money. As a family we had close ties to Australia, the Batts in the 19th C. and my father's family of Timmins, one of the convicts on the Friendship.
