Hi
Interesting article on the origins of the family name. I am familiar with the above. But according to the oxford dictoinary of surnames. ( note I am going off memorey) the name Sharrocks is indeed Old English, this term is usually refered for simplicityand to identify as certain lanugage trait that was spoken in England before modern English came along. In other words to is just another name for anlgo-saxon i,e German or german dialects. From the dictionary I found out that the name Sharrocks is indeed anglo-saxon and means bank oak. i.e Sharr = bank, and ocks =aok/s. So by this it could mean that the original name holder lived by the banks of a river and near heay wood enviroment. This perfectly suits germany and and other saxons lands. This is also where we, the english inherited our love of naming people after their place of birth or profession. Intresting conections.
best wishes
