Betty, my family has RP as well, the X-linked version, and are having trouble tracing back beyond a Nancy Porter, b. PA, had numerous children with William Powell before he divorced her. Most of the children were born in Ohio, my Hulda in 1853. Hulda and at least one sister passed the RP down,Hulda having a blind brother and son ( only son), and all her 4 reproducing daughters passed it down. No male-to-male transmission has occured, so it is assumed X-linked. A distant cousin has been part of research, and has been told it is definitelt X-linked. But my brother, who was disgnosed 16 months ago and tested has still not received definite results, and has been told that his symptoms are not typical. Also, my mother's sister is blind with "retinal degeneration", unspecified. Also, Hulda herself was "blind in one eye",although she could have had some vision problems from being an X-linked carrier. Do these names show up in your information( funny - the above cousin I mentioned has the last name Gill!) Carol Carlson ectjcarlson@aol.com
