Hi Lee.
Thanks so much for the link to Harris Sharp's grave. "Damaris" is buried in the Maumee Cemetery,as well.
Regarding dates on tombstones, I use them as a guide, but I don't consider them to be 100 percent reliable. I suspect that sometimes someone other than a direct family member gave the information to the stone cutter or perhaps the stone cutter didn't write down the date and just did it from memory. Sometimes wooden crosses were placed on the graves and the stones were erected long after the burial. I noticed that Harris and Demaris couldn't read and write on the early census records. Later, when Harris indicated he could write, I surmised it meant that he could write his name. Perhaps a lot of business transactions were done by word of mouth in the early days of that part of Gibson County. At least we're in the ballpark of 1879–1880 for Harris' death. I wonder how many of those burials for the surname "Sharp" are related to Harris. I wonder if Harris left a will because I saw where he bought Bounty Land in 1835 and 1838.
Thanks for the reference to Stormont. I had found his book through Heritage Quest.
Best regards,
Bonnie
