Report published by Virginia Transportation Research Council, June 2005.
2 April 1745,O.S., FOB 1, p 316
On the petition of Thomas Branson, Thomas Thorntown, THOMAS SHARP JUNIOR, John Downton, Edward Churchman, John Branson, Robert McKay Junior, THOMAS SHARP SENIOR, Thomas Hankins, Joseph Hankins, Marmaduke Vickery, Spencer Jones, William Smith, Beatany Haines, William Ramor, John Duckworth, John Painter, Thomas Postgate, William Feamley, Hugh Candeday, John Arledge, James Sadin, Thomas Alexander, Edward Cordit, John Gregory, Abraham Crandon, Robert Catlett, William Remy, James Kempes, Benjamin Gregory, Christopher Nation, John Nation for a road from the courthouse to Gregory's ford. Its ordered that the petitioners clear and work on the same. And Samuel Earle is hereby appointed surveyor thereof and its further ordered that he keep the said road in good repair according to law.
This shows clearly that Thomas Sharp Senior and junior were included in this work order in 1745. In order for a male to be eligible to serve, he had to be a "male laboring tithable) or 18 years or older.
Thus, Thomas Sharp Junior had to have been born by 1727 in order to be eligible to serve.
There are more road orders that include Thomas Sharp senior and Thomas Sharp junior and I will post them soon.
