Giles Sharp, SC, War of 1812 Pension
I have a copy of Giles Sharp's pension application for service in the War of 1812. He served from 1 Oct 1814 to 5 Mar 1815, in Col Means regiment of the South Carolina militia vols. He volunteered at Lipseys Old Field, and was discharged at Charleston, SC. He lived in Union Co, SC and was married to Susan McTomkins or McJenkins on 1 July 1832 in Union Co, SC. He received a land warrant for service for 80 acres and served on the coast of SC. Witnesses were J.B. Edwards and A.R. Aughtry (Aughty). A.B. Spears was clerk. The application was submitted on 6 Sep 1871. Also states he was a sergeant with Capt S. Fancett's Co, SC Militia. Is it possible he was a brother to my G-g-g grandfather, Jesse Sharp/Sharpe, b. 1791, SC, and also served in the War of 1812 during the same time period? M. Griggs [email protected]
