John Sharp-Nancy Landrum
John and Nancy Landrum Sharp established their home on a plantation near Wallace Crossroads, Tenn., where they lived until 1855. In 1855, John and Nancy Sharp decided to move their family to a wider horizon and a free soil. They set out for Kansas after giving their slaves their freedom adding the gift of a new suit of clothes, money, and a blanket to each. They spent four years in Marysville, Mo. as Kansas was unsettled due to Border warfare between Pro-slavery and Anti-slavery factions. They reached Chase Co. Kansas in late April, 1860. John Sharp died in 9-24-1861 leaving Nancy with 13 children in a land where wilderness was king; but she was equal to her task. The Sharp children were all born in Tennessee except William, who was born in Missouri.
