Hi Mary:

I haven't found any evidence that John H. Shearon is a son of Caleb Shearon. I have suspected that they may be related because John lived in Wayne, Wayne Co., IN in 1860. Caleb had lived there in 1850 according to the census and his sons Warner, William and Thomas were still in Wayne in 1860. At that time John (aged 24) was living with Andrew and Angeline Shearon, a William Shearon (age 18), and Stephen and Rachel Mendenhall and family. I don't know any of their relationships to Caleb's family or each other.
John and Adelaide Mayhugh Shearon married about 1861 and had 4 children. Oliver (b. 1862) and Ida (b. 1863) were born in Parkersburg, Wood, WV where Adelaide was from. My g-grandmother,Mary Catherine (Mamie), was born in Wyandott Co. KS in 1867 or 1868. Maud was born in Richmond, Wayne, IN in 1869. I don't know what happened to John or Oliver after that, but all the women were listed on the 1900 Census in Parkersburg, WV. My grandmother, Eleanor Gillum, said that Adelaide lived in Chillicothe, Ohio while my grandmother was a child. I have a picture of Adelaide, her 3 daughters, my mother and her sister taken in about in about 1925 in Ohio. I assume that Adelaide died there. I don't know what happened to Ida after that. Maud (McClellan) died in Warren, Ohio and Mamie (Gillum Scoggan) died in Chicago. My mom married a serviceman during WWII and I was born in Sacramento, CA. My husband and I transferred with his job to Edmond, OK about 12 years ago. The rest of the family is either in IL or CA except for us, my children (ID and MO) and one cousin in Japan.
Let me know if any of this sounds vaguely familiar. I sure would like to know more about John Shearon's family. Thanks, Judy
