Mary, Here's what I have on Hugh and Jane. I sent (I think)this to Sharon Goldman. If you want a better copy, I can send this via e-mail as well. Bill Putman THE SHARON FAMILY IN KENTUCKY
Most of the family remained in Kentucky, but one son, Robert Sharon, continued on westward in 1831 and settled in Brown County, Illinois. Another son, John Sharon, moved to Fountain County, Indiana about the same time. HUGH SHARRON Hugh Sharron was born in Fermanagh township, Juniata County, Pennsylvania in the late 1760s. There were two young Hugh Sharrons about the same age. One would have been the son of James Sharron and the other the son of Hugh Sharron his brother. Both James and Hugh were the sons of William and Margaret Sherron. I believe that this Hugh Sharron was the son of Hugh. James' son Hugh seems to have gone with his brother William to the Westmoreland County area in the early 1790s. Further evidence was shown in the section covering the senior Hugh Sharron. Here I showed how he was involved with Jane Fisher and more than likely married her. Since this Hugh Sharon and Jane Barhill named At any rate, this Hugh Sharron was born in the 1760s in the Lost Creek Valley of Fermanagh township in what was to become Juniata County. He served in the Revolution in the Cumberland Militia. After the War, he returned to Lost Creek and married Jane Barnhill some time around 1790. Hugh and Jane's first two children were born in Fermanagh Township; Samuel Sharon in 1792 and James Fisher Sharon in 1794. Shortly thereafter, Hugh and most of the other branches of the Sharon family headed southwest to take up bounty lands. While several Sharon families settled for a while in Westmoreland and Fayette counties, Hugh and Jane seem to have headed further afield and ended up in Scott County, Kentucky. Scott County is in north central Kentucky just below the Ohio border. They more than likely traveled by boat down the Ohio River. Now comes an interesting part. There was a newspaper article in the SHARON (Pennsylvania) HERALD on Friday October 5, 1956 which investigated the origin of the name of the town, Sharon. A descendant of this Hugh Sharon, Harold Culbertson, stimulated interest in trying to prove that Sharon, Pennsylvania was named after his Hugh Sharon and not after the biblical Plains of Sharon as originally thought. Further investigation indicated that although the town was formed in 1815 by William Budd, the first recorded deeds were handwritten in the name of Aaron. It is now believed that Aaron was in fact a misreading of the name Sharon and this early Sharon was the one who sold property to William Budd who built and named his Sharon Tavern after this early family. This fact was recorded apparently in a 1830 family bible of James Fisher Sharon. This may well have been the case, but I tend to doubt it. By 1796 this Hugh Sharon and his wife, Jane, were in Fayette County, Kentucky where their third child, John Sharon, was born in June of that year. The 1800 Pennsylvania census shows a Hugh Sharran in Beaver County. Beaver and Mercer counties were both formed in 1800 out of Allegheny County. Sharon is in Mercer County. It would therefore seem to me that there was obviously a Hugh Sharon in the vicinity of Sharon, Pennsylvania in the 1790s, but that it could not have been the Hugh Sharon who was in Kentucky at the time. The Hugh in the Sharon, Pennsylvania area had a son, also Hugh, who went just over the border into Trumbull County, Ohio in the very early 1800s and appears there in the 1810 Ohio Census. This young Hugh Sharon's life was included in the section on the OHIO SHARONS. Now...., back to Hugh and Jane. They remained in Fayette County, Kentucky only a short time and then moved to adjacent Scott County. In fact they may not have moved as these two counties were established in the 1790s from Virginia counties and the borders may have been ill-defined at the time. The births of their next three children are all recorded as occurring in Scott County; Robert in 1798, Jane in 1800 and Nancy in 1804. Hugh and Jane remained for the rest of their lives on their farm in Scott County, Kentucky. Jane died sometime in the early 1840s and Hugh in early 1847. The will of Hugh Sharon was proved in court on June 21, 1847. The following is what I know about the children of Hugh and Jane Barnhill Sharon.

His wife's name was Sarah (Sally) and according to her tombstone, she was born March 19, 1799 and died September 13, 1857 in Scott County, Kentucky.
