I am so glad that you were alerted to my posting. After the passing of time, many email addresses have become obsolete. And oftentimes, there are no other clues as to how to contact people. That is why I noted the city and state in which I live. I use my work email address for everything, so feel free to use that. It is firstname.lastname@example.org. My home # is 413-203-1213. Others who read this and may want to share info are welcome to contact me also.
It must be fun to know that your posting are still being read. One never knows when someone will come out of the woodwork. I posted a message at Ancestry.com thinking it would never be answered, but it was and a few brick walls for several people were overcome.
One reason I seek out descendants of the older generations, in addition to try to back as far as I can in a direct lineage, it to see if distant cousins out there somewhere may have some information that I am missing, or anecdotes or photos. The odds seem slim, but I've hit lucky a few times.
Another user of Ancestry.com was working on the same Jabaut tree. She actually has photos of Victoria's parents (Catherine Bisson/Besaw and Oliver/Levi Jabaut) and sent me the scans. They are uploaded to these people on my tree at Ancestry.com, so take a look and download.
Catherine was my great grandfather's younger sister by Mathilde Martineau and Jerome Bisson. My great grandfather was Augustin Bisson aka Justin Besaw.
In responding to another Martineau posting, but at Ancestry.com, another one that is several years old, I received another quick reply from a woman in Iowa, Rebecca Hougher. She is originally from Vermont, and her great grandmother was Harriet (Martineau) Coon. Harriet and Mathilde Martineau were sisters and two of several siblings.
I hope to someday find someone with a photo of Mathilde Martineau, her husband or her siblings, but won't hold my breath. I never even thought about photos beyond that generation, but, to my amazement, Rebecca provided me with a photo of their mother!!! I just uploaded that image to her record.
I think you can access the public member trees only if you are registered at that site, though.
Their mother was Marguerite/Margaret Dussault. She was born and baptized on August 21, 1804 at Yamska, Quebec (St-Francois-du-Lac). She married Joseph Lormier dit Martineau in Yamaska, Qeubec (St-Michel) on July 26, 1825. The birth records of the two eldest, Mathilde and Elizabth, are in the Quebec Vital Records. I could not find any other Quebec birth records for the children after those two, and census records note a U.S. nativity, so it appears that they moved to New York in between the births of their 2nd child and their 3rd child.
Might you have a photo of Victoria Jabaut Sharron? Does your husband recall any tidbits of info about the Victoria or her mother or her grandparents?
Thanks for this site, and Ancestry.com, allowing all of us seeking our roots to connect and share. It's amazing that people across the country are researching the same people.
