Merle, Merrill, Myrl, Myrle, SHARKEY...DAD??

I've written before, with no luck and years later, I'm writing again. I'm still trying to find out if Merle (sp?) Sharkey is my Dad??? I'm beginning to have my doubts, as I'm not sure that my Mom gave me the correct name, but then what a name for her to come up with! Anyway, I was born in December, 1967 in Glendale, CA, so I must have been conceived some time around March 1967 in the San Fernando area. Apparently, my Mom met my Dad while cruising on Van Nuys Blvd. My Mom's name is Leslie. I was given my mother's maiden name, BJORKLUND. She declined to declare who my father was on my birth certificate, so there you go. I only managed to get his name after a heated argument, where she phoned me, said that's all she's going to tell me and then hung up. Anyway, I've heard lots and lots of stories. One of which is that he was dating Coleta, a friend of my mother's and so this was a big "oops", when he got together with my Mom. They all lived in the Burbank/Glendale/Sunland area at the time. Does this sound familiar to anyone? I believe he visited my Grandmother at a time when it was known that my Mom was pregnant only to be turned away as my Mom did not want to see or speak to him. (She's very, very stubborn). Anyway, I can't get her to tell me anything more and she insists this is his name. I know he must have lived in or around Sunland, Ca during the 60s & 70s as my Mom saw him and hurried back to the salon to tell my Grandmother. I think I was about 5 at the time. I'm not sure why this is such a big secret, but it is. I've asked all sorts of questions, but again, my Mom gets angry when I try to talk to her about it, so I've given up. All I want from this is my name and family history. That's all. I don't expect anything more from it although if it turns out that I get to know my family more, well great! I'm very big into genealogy, so this is a huge gap for me. He's got two grandkids that are doing great! Well, if anyone knows anything, I would be greatful!

Also, can anyone point me to the history of the Sharkeys and where they came from? Thank you!

Kelly
