Hi all, My name is Nathan Shapero (yes i know there is an 'e' in it but i will explain why in a bit) I have sparked recent intrest into my family tree and have been speaking to my mother who knows a couple of facts about my fathers side of the family. The only information i have is my great grandfather Hyman or Heyman Shapero fled from Poland to america during World War 2. When WW 11 commenced I believe that my Great-Grandfather (Hymen Shapero) and his brother managed to escape the Nazi’s and fled to England. My Great-Grandfather, Hymen, decided to immigrate to Australia as a refugee whilst his brother opted to head for the USA. I understand that none of their relatives survived the camps and all died. The australian way of spelling Shapiro is Shapero with an 'e' not an 'i'. The reason being for this error is because whilst my great gandfather immigrated we believe the records did not form the “e” properly on immigration records. Remember everything in those days was hand written. My great uncle did well in the USA and his family went on to become quite well known in the film and television industry in the USA. I believe im some how related to Helen Shapiro whom was a famous singer during veitnam era. My great-grandfather married Hettie Goldsmith here in Australia, I think, and they had a number of children who are all now dead including my Grandfather Arnold, my Dad’s father. I have copies of some birth certificates etc from my Dad’s family. I'm planning on visiting the Jewish Associations in Sydney, Australia to try and trace my family through the concentration camps in Europe. Anywho, if anyone have heard of a Hyman or Heyman Shapero please email me. I would love to have a chat with you and find out more about the past. Notify Administrator about this message?
