Using DNA I've managed to prove I am a descendant of Thomas and Eleanor Shannon of Wilkes County, GA in 1773 and probably from Ireland before that. The documentation was pointing in that direction, but was not conclusive. We've managed to piece together most of the male descendants of Thomas and Eleanor and found many Shannons across the South who had no idea they were related to this line.My Thomas had South Carolina connections, but was probably not related to your Shannon/Mobeley line (but DNA would prove it if any of the Shannons in that line would join).Almost every Shannon family has a family tree going back to either Nataniel Shannon or Thomas/Eigness of VA.But the DNA results show very few actual descendants of Nathanial, and relatively few for Thomas/EignessSo, I think many of those genealogies are wrong.
