John SHANKS - different versions
Posted by: Tony Birch (ID *****8101) Date: December 02, 2008 at 09:06:05

My ancestor is John SHANKS of Mecklenburg, VA. John was b. 1728 or 1730 or 1738. He m. Lydia DICKEY and d. bef. 9 January 1792.

In various family histories I've noted two different versions of the line of descent from John SHANKS b. 1619, Dumfries, Scotland to my John SHANKS.

One version (#1) has:
John SHANKS, b. 1728 or 1730 or 1738;
Thomas SHANKS, b. 1669 or 1689;
John SHANKS, b. 1652;
and John SHANKS, b. 1619.

The other version (#2) has:
John SHANKS, b. 1728 or 1730 or 1738;
John SHANKS, b. 1686;
John SHANKS, b. 1667;
and John SHANKS, b. 1619.

I'd appreciate comment from SHANKS researchers on which version is likely correct

Thanks,
Tony
