DANVILLE - Mary Ellen Shaner, 69, of Danville died Friday, Nov. 3, 2006, at Heartland Manor Care Nursing Home in Paxton.
She was born Oct. 21, 1937, in Beardstown, the daughter of William and Alice Fox Lang. She married John R. Shaner in 1961 in Virginia.
Mrs. Shaner graduated from Virginia High School, Monmouth College and Washington University and was certified as a learning disabilities teacher at Illinois State University. She taught at public schools in Freeport and Danville, where she was a learning disabilities teacher and was named Danville Teacher of the Year. She was a member of American Association of University Women, Altrusa and Delta Kappa Gamma and a volunteer with Habitat for Humanity. She was of the Presbyterian faith.
Survivors: husband, John; two sons, William J. (wife, Kristen) Shaner of Morton and Mark R. (wife, Jennifer) Shaner of Carl Junction, Mo.; and a grandson.
Services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, First Presbyterian Church, Virginia. Burial: Walnut Ridge Cemetery, Virginia.
Massie-Buchanan Funeral Home in Virginia is in charge of arrangements.
