Hi James, Also in the bio of Harvey G. Shaner: "Jacob and Mary Shaner (grandparents) lived in Berks county. He followed the trade of carpet weaver throughout his life. They died many years ago and are buried at Boyertown. He was also a Democrat." There are several Jacob/Mary couples, but here's a theory. In Earl township in 1850, there is a Jacob Shaner (age 45) and Mary (age 45) with a son William (age 14). Jacob's occupation is carpet weaver. The other children listed in 1850 are Sarah (age 9), Mary (age 7), Jane (age 4) and Jacob (age 1). A possible marriage record for this couple: Christ (Oley) Lutheran church records show a Jacob Schoener married Mary Reider on 18 Nov 1827. As for parents of Jacob, there was a Jacob Shaner b. 19 Mar 1772 d. 12 Nov 1855 with wife Maria Neuman b. 10 Feb 1778 d. 5 Aug 1842. They are buried at New Hanover Lutheran Church Cemetery. (I have a tombstone picture that I will soon post on findagrave.com - if you would like me to email you a copy, let me know. William and Rebecca are buried at Fairview in Boyertown and I have already posted theirs.) Any way, Jacob and Maria (Newman) Shaner had a son Jacob who would have been about the right age to be the above Jacob. As I said, this is just a theory, so let me know if you have any info to either confirm or refute. Janis Tomko Notify Administrator about this message?
