Dear Sierra, I am researching my SHANE family, and it's been an interesting journey. I am trying to close the gaps...maybe we can help each other. I have more extensive SHANE info, and will send it via the e-mail address posted here. Here's what I have abt. James so far...he's one of my grandfathers:
James Shane b. Aug 11 1745 Long Island, NY CO, NY, The Colonies. d. June 27 1804 Steubenville, Jefferson CO, Ohio. Buried in Two Ridge Cemetery, Isalnd Creek, Jefferson CO, Ohio; inscription says, "farmer and Revolutionary War soldier". m. wife #1 Elzabeth Short on January 1, 1774 in Fallowfield Twp, Washington CO, PA. Children: Benjamin, Jacob (my grandfather), Jebecca, John. Wife #2 Sally Redd abt. 1803

You mention he was born on the ocean. I think his father was Thomas or Johannes (could have been changed to John in Americaa; I lean to Thomas because he came first to America in 1738 @ 38-years old. A brother followed later. Johannes came abt. 10-years later. I am descended from the marriage of Michael and Nancy DEDERICH/DEITRICH Shane. He migrated to Germany in the 1600's and married Nancy, a German girl. They had 3 sons and a daughter. I am still confirming my connection between Thomas and James. The recorded info in the family records states this migration info as beginning with Michael, Thomas...then I have to confirm dates and other possibilities for a grandfather between Thomas and James. But, it's a fact that these are my bloodline: James, Jacob, Peter, Fayette (Shane) Wolcott...It gets REAL interesting at Fayette!
