Hello Greg,
My Shanahan was in the US by 1860 and married to 3 different Ellens by then. The first was Ellen McAuliffe- were there many McAuliffes in your area at that time? I have been to some parts of Tipperary- beautiful!- but not tto Thurles, mostly around Clonmel and Cahir.
It is possible that my Timothy was the one on the Jeanie Johnston- there were apparently 3- Denis, John, and Timothy- they were farmers-but the reason I think it was him is this: his second wife was Ellen Clifford, and there was an Ellen Clifford on the same ship just a couple of bunks down. Would be neat if it was him- I got to see the replica ship under sail in Galway Bay at Salthill in 2004, the day of the Salthill Airshow!
