I don't think I can connect the George Shaffner line, but I do have some information that my put some pieces together.

My great-great grandfather was Henry Albert Shaffner (b 5/23/1857 in Shuyler County, IL) married Mary Catherine Brown (b. May 18, 1860) and had nine children. The fifth child was Gertrude Shaffner (b May 13, 1887 in Garden City, KS). My Great Grandfather was the seventh child, William Ralph Shaffner (b. March 01, 1891). I have info on all siblings of Gertrude and Ralph. I have Gertrude marrying a Mr. Davis and she died September 26, 1963.

Henry Albert's timeline:
1877 to 1885: Married in Camden, Schuyler County, Illinois, and lived there for 8 years. Henry age 20, Mary age 17
1885 to 1889: Lived in Garden City, Kansas
1889 to 1899: Lived in Brookfield, Missouri
June 8, 1899: Moved to Newkirk, Kay County, Oklahoma. Lived there until death in 1940 with Mary Catherine.

Does this follow the story in your book? I would really be interested in hearing more…
I have some more info. Let me know if this helps/rings a bell. I cannot find Henry Albert's parents or siblings.
