Thank you so much for your post--I haven't done research in West Virginia, and had no idea about their wonderful online resources! Thanks for your help!
Yes, I didn't mention about George W. Shaffer (Sr.)'s death or that of his wives because I've just discovered them, and haven't yet found that information. I'm guessing that they probably died in Harrisburg (esp. the first wife, Camilla), but I'm just not sure yet. Camilla's only census appearance (I believe) is in Harrisburg in 1850. Levina's last appearance is in the 1870 Harrisburg census. I have George W. Sager (Sr.) in the 1880 Harrisburg census, but don't have access to the census right now to check him in the 1900 census.
As to birth dates, George W. (Sr)'s dates are all over the place in the census--he was born anywhere from 1815 to 1824, but I think it was on the early side of that range, since his eldest daughter appears to be b. 1837. Camilla was b. abt. 1816, and Levinia b. abt. 1833. But these dates are all from the census, and I seriously question their accuracy--very rough.
Thanks again for your help! I was stuck for years on their daughter, Emma, my 3rd great-grandmother, so I'm thrilled to be making progress again on this line. Hoping I can find some cousins to share with. I have some obits and other little details to share.
