Probably the best reference to begin with Stephen Shackelford would be The Shackelford Clan Magazine which published his will in their January issue in 1948 Vol. 3. No. 9. The entire will and article can be read at Otherwise I have given the few resources I have for this Stephen Shackelford below.

VI.       Stephen SHACKELFORD, born September 23, 1756, in North Carolina; he is mentioned 1778-1783 in the Onslow County, North Carolina, records. He was a soldier of the Revolution. By 1788, he appears as a planter on the Waccamaw River, near Georgetown, South Carolina; he had removed to Britton’s Neck, Marion County, South Carolina, by 1820. In 1825 it is recorded that he deeded two negro boys to Calvin SHACKELFORD, probably his son. He died about 1834 - 1835, in Marion County, South Carolina.

The will of Stephen SHACKELFORD is recorded in the Marion County Court House, Marion, South Carolina, in Will Book 1800 -1840, pages 255 - 257. In this will, dated July 5, 1834, he names his wife Suzannah SHACKELFORD (maiden name unknown) and the following children:

1.       John,(appointed the executor of the will).
2.       Ann Rogers.
3.       Elizabeth Paisley.
4.       Mary Moody.

In the same book the author has Ann Elizabeth Shackelford listed as one of the children of Stephen. She married Col. Benjamin Rogers, Jr. and this is the write up on her.

VII.       Ann SHACKELFORD, born January 3, 1782; died April 30, 1856; she married (1) Dr. Thomas Wickham; she married (2) on September 4, 1804, Benjamin Rogers of Marlboro District.

For the continuation of this line, refer to the “Rogers” section.

Source material for the foregoing extracts from the SHACKELFORD book is indicated in Chapter I, Introduction: “to obtain the data used in the preparation of these sketches our historian, the Rev. Franklin S. Moselye, traveled thousands of miles examining old records, holding personal interviews, visiting old cemeteries, etc.; he and I have obtained reports from research bureaus; we have examined results of investigations by Judge W. Rodes SHACKELFORD, Richmond, Kentucky; Joel Walker SHACKELFORD, Denver, Colorado; Mrs. Jane SHACKELFORD McCrady, Charleston, South Carolina; Lieutenant Colonel Robert B. SHACKELFORD, Dr. Jesse M. SHACKELFORD, and Mr. Minor Gibson, all of Virginia; and we have added to all of that what we know and what we could gather through conversations and correspondence. We gratefully acknowledge our obligation to all who have, in any way, contributed to our efforts.”

The dates of birth, death and marriage of Ann SHACKELFORD, daughter of Stephen SHACKELFORD, are recorded in the Family Bible in possession of Mr. E. B. Berry, Latta, South Carolina.
