A study of the DNA of the descendants of Mayor Henry Sewall of Coventry, Warwickshire, England is underway. Participants are sought in each of the following branches of the family:
1. Descendants of Chief Justice Samuel Sewall of Boston
2. Descendants of John Sewall of Newbury
3. Descendants of Stephen Sewall of Salem (almost all spell their name Sewell)
4. Descendants of Counselor Henry Sewall of Maryland
The study is being done in concert with the Sewell Surname Group Project at Family Tree DNA.
Any Sewall or Sewell, whether or not descended from Henry Sewall of Coventry is encouraged to participate. Prospective members should be male Sewalls or Sewells and be willing to disclose the name and place of origin of their earliest known Sewall or Sewell ancestor. The results will be most valuable if the line of descent from the earliest known ancestor is also disclosed. Results from all participants will faciliate sorting out the many apparently unrelated Sewall and Sewell families.
